Vieux Carre Cocktail Recipe
The quintessential New Orleans Cocktail. Created at the famous Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone by bartender Walter Bergeron in the 1930s. “Vieux Carre” means “old square” in French and is an homage to the French Quarter.
This is a variation on the Manhattan (whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters) and will appeal to fans of the Manhattan.
Smoke: optional - Preferably something less potent so as not to overpower the delicate flavors of the cognac and Benedictine.
Ingredients
-
1oz Rye whiskey
-
1oz Cognac
-
0.75oz Sweet Vermouth
-
0.25oz Benedictine liqueur
-
2 dashes Angostura bitters
-
2 dashes Peychaud bitters
-
Orange twist, Luxardo cherry
Instructions
Add all ingredients to an Old Fashioned or lowball glass, then add ice & stir 5 or 6 times. Peel orange, express the oils over the drink, and add to glass. Add a Luxardo cherry to the glass (optional) and enjoy
